I created all the character assets and wing sequences used in this animated short. I handed the assets to my other team members and they used them to match up to the specific scenes we assigned each other in my drawings.
Initially we were going to have 4 different birds, but cut it down to 2 due to time constraints and because the plot of the story would still be faithful to storyboards.
I like capturing all kinds of potential emotions, poses, and positions during my character creation process so that putting together an animation flows smoothly.
Storyboard Creation for Take Flight Animation
This animated short was created in a 2D Animation class I took at UTA. We were assigned to groups of 4 and had to come up with a minute long animation.
Our team brainstormed story plots and scenarios the first day. The next day we all showed up with story ideas and one member suggested a story about birds learning to fly. We all chatted about it because we liked it and it had a happy ending. From there I took the reigns and went to town piecing together a coherent story in storyboard format.
All future discussions and actions took off from the initial storyboards and assets until we put together an animation I really enjoyed creating.
I also brought our characters to life by giving them their own quirks and personalities.
